The end of October is always the best time of the year. The leaves change into gorgeous autumn hues, the weather cools, pumpkins are everywhere, my birthday happens, and then so does Halloween. We've had some great hand-made costumes in the past, but this year was my first to sew with fur, and it was awesome. It took Lincoln some convincing that Chewbacca was a much cooler costume than Spiderman or a Knight, but then I found Zalie's costume for $5 at a local consignment store and Lincoln no longer had a choice. He was going to be Chewbacca and he was going to like it! He sure owned it though and told all his friends at the park that he was going to be Chewbacca with pride.

To make things more epic this Halloween, we won the Chili Cook-off Competition at the ward party!! Woo! This ward does not mess around and we got a trophy, a certificate, an apron, and an oven mitt. We walked into church the next day like royalty! Funny story though, we never made the recipe before and didn't even try it before the judging. Chad was just talking about how we were going to get rid of our "last place chili"right before the winners were announced. It was a complete surprise that we won! haha
The next day, these chili champs drove back to Charlotte so Chad could be sworn into the BAR of North Carolina before a Judge. It was way cool and I felt so proud of him! He's an official Lawyer now! The drive to and from NC took us through the Shenandoah Valley, and my oh my was it a gorgeous drive! Talk about hills covered with fall colors! It was the perfect time to make that drive.
My birthday happened next. Chad took the day off work (since he left the next morning for Tanzania), and we went to the Leesburg Animal Park and Pumpkin Village. There were tons of activities and animals.
One of the fantasies Lincoln talks about all the time is his castle. It's located far away on a freeway, and a lot of his children live in it. It also has a huge garage with two firetrucks. When he saw this castle, he was so excited and exclaimed to me "This is my castle, and (nodding to the other kids playing in it) these are my kids!" It was a dream come true for this little man!

Who wore the shell better?
On Halloween, we made the best of it without Chad. We went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood (Lincoln's first time-yes, we're lazy parents). It was so fun! Both kids loved it and got tons of candy! We sure miss Chad and hope these next 2 weeks just zoom by...
