Americans in "la Haute Savoie"

For the fourth (and hopefully the last) time in Chad's life he has spent the 4th of July outside of the U.S. Despite not being able to celebrate in style, we still had a good Independence Day. It all started with Lincoln being adorable.

American wear. Check out Emily's scarf
and Chad's watch.
We spent the afternoon of the 4th going on a walking tour of Geneva with people from Chad's classes. It was a lot of fun, even though we've seen most of it before.

The old University of Geneva.

We ate some La Durée Macarons as a 4th of July
treat. We also had hamburgers and fries, but
Chad sure missed a good pancake breakfast.

Can you spot the American in Geneva celebrating the
4th of July?
On the 5th we decided to go to Evian (yes, the same place your fancy mineral water comes from). We got on a train and headed out to this beautiful French city near the lake.

The factory.

The Evian water comes from glaciers way up in the Alps and then is naturally filtered through granite, sand, and other rocks. It emerges naturally from a source in Evian and is bottled without being touched by human hands or having anything added to it. Below are the gates to the old baths where people would come to use the mineral water to deals with their aches and pains.

When in Evian, you have to ride the FUNiculaire. Yes, that's a capital F-U-N.

After riding the funiculaire we had to fill up our water bottles. And of course, we filled them with free, cold, delicious Evian water straight from a glacier (OK, not "straight" since it takes 15 years from the time the glacial water melts to make its way to where we got it).

Evian is a beautiful little French town right near Lac Léman. We had a wonderful time there just looking at the views, walking around, and eating.

"Smurf" ice cream.

Chad was pretty exhausted, but
not Lincoln.

And so we boarded the train and bid farewell to yet another picturesque French town. Until next time...
