Torino and Les Orres

We are a little behind in our stories!  Here is what we did last week....

It was Chad's last week of his internship.  He finished work on Wednesday, so bright and early Thursday morning we started on our adventure.  We drove through Mt. Blanc (and it cost us a pretty penny in tolls to get through that 6 or 7 mile long tunnel.  We're still not used to paying tolls all the time) and arrived in Italy.  We went through so many tunnels and windy roads to get to Torino. Torino, or Turin, used to be the capital of Italy and so has a lot of neat buildings, statues, and history.

Oh Italy, you have such amazing food!  The pizza, pasta, and gelato were amazing! Mmmmmmm....

We took a little break at a park so Lincoln could get out of the stroller.  He finally got over his fear of the grass!  He was crawling all over... but he didn't like his knees touching the grass, so he crawled on his feet most of the time.

We went to the National Cinema Museum that was in the Mole.  It was really neat even though it was mainly focused on modern Italian films. There was a really neat section on the magic lanterns and the beginning of cinema and they even had some sweet Star Wars masks.

While wandering around we happened to come across a free orchestra concert.  They were playing Beethoven and it was so beautiful!  There's something about being in Italy, surrounded by beautiful buildings, and listening to live classical music :)  It was so nice!

Best thing ever!  Chad has been needing a hair cut and we found a cheap place in Torino to get that taken care of.  The barber asked him how he wanted it styled and Chad said "Make me beautiful" hahaaa...... beautiful indeed!  He made Chad's hair so fluffy.  I mean, I never realized Chad had so much forehead until this style.  It took the Barber a good 15 minutes to get the right fluffiness.  He did a fantastic job!

On Friday we went to the National Automobile Museum.  It was really cool to see a bunch of European fancy cars.

We learned that FIAT stands for "Fabbrica italiana automobili torino."  We didn't realize that FIATs were made in Torino, but it made a lot of sense because the museum had a lot of FIAT love.  There was a room dedicated to how awesome FIATs were because they are small and fuel efficient. This room also hated on American cars because they are big and bad for the environment. It was pretty funny.

Lincoln had a great time, especially when we held him.  We found a little race car that was just his size :)  He was pretty excited about it!

We then wandered through the city more and found the Piazza San Carlo. In the old Italian Job movie there is a scene where the mini coopers drive through this archway.  The funny thing is that they weren't given permission to film there so they just did it anyway.  The people who run out of the way as the minis drive through them are literally running for their lives.

This street mime was pretty funny!  He joked with Chad and pretended to take his wife away from him.  He definitely earned the change we gave him!

After Italy we went back to France for one of Chad's mission companion's weddings.  It took place in Embrun and the reception was in Les Orres.  Les Orres is up in the mountains and is so pretty!  The water there tasted so good and the views were gorgeous!  It was the perfect setting for a wedding.
