Zalie Mae Turner decided to surprise us and came right on time! She was born on her due date, October 8, 2014 at 2:11pm weighing 8lb 2oz and 21 inches long. She is so perfect! We love her so much and are so excited to have her in our family.
Lincoln was 10 days late and Emily had to be induced. We thought there was no way Zalie would come on time, and anticipated going a week over and possibly being induced. When Emily woke up at 5am on Wednesday morning with some contractions she was shocked! She hadn't felt contractions the whole pregnancy so had no idea if they were serious or not. She labored at home, sending Chad to school and Lincoln to the park with friends. By 12:30pm though, she decided she needed to go to the hospital. Chad came home, a friend came over to watch Lincoln, and we got to the hospital by 1:20pm. Emily was having contractions every 3 minutes at this point, but they weren't severe and did not last long so she thought they'd send her home. Well, once she was in a gown and on the hospital bed, the contractions became super intense. She had 3 or 4 painful and long contractions and then screamed "I'm pushing!" All of a sudden a Doctor and 3 nurses were in the room and moving her to the delivery room. Emily was asking for an epidural at this point, but she was already fully dilated and the baby was ready. She did not get an epidural. The Dr broke her water, and with 3 pushes out came baby Zalie at 2:11pm! It was so fast! We were at the hospital less than an hour before she was born. We were both in shock that she came so fast and completely on her own. This experience was 100% different than Lincoln's birth. We feel so blessed that the labor and delivery were easy. And not being medicated wasn't as bad as Emily thought it would be.
We were able to come home the next evening after learning some bad news. Zalie's right clavicle was fractured during delivery. They took some X-rays of her shoulders and taught us how to pin her arm in place so her clavicle is more stable. They said they see this about once a week and that it's very common. We're hoping her bone will heal itself in a couple weeks. We will see a Pediatric Orthopedic Doctor in a couple weeks and hope to have good news! Zalie received a Priesthood Blessing and we are comforted that she will heal properly and be a healthy little girl. We are so grateful for all the care we've received with this delivery.
