Brussels, Belgium

Before we get to our adventures in Brussels, it's important to note that Lincoln has completed his 5 week Music Makers course. Yes, we've been here that long! He made great friends and enjoyed doing the Roley-Poley and singing about Old MacDonald and his Farm. We will miss seeing that masked Pirate every Thursday.

On Saturday we headed on a train and left the Netherlands (without our passports...oops!) and crossed into Belgium. Lincoln loved being on the train and narrated everything we saw. Although he did not see many cows so we told him they were probably sleeping in their barns with their blankies. We talked about cows and blankies for a good 10 minutes.

This Cathedral was beautiful and all...

But not as beautiful as this truck parked in front of it:

Real Belgian waffles are so good! They have a crispy outer shell with a sort of gooey and flakey inside. They were fabulous and the perfect start to our day in Brussels!

After these amazing waffles, we walked to the comic museum. Chad's real reason for coming to the Netherlands was not so he could work for the Hague Conference (although that has been very rewarding), no, it was so he could come to this museum. It's a French Comic book paradise, and made Chad quite giddy with delight!

Here Chad is with his hero: Lucky Luke.

We've decided to put something like this
in our house. Between the Kitchen and
Living Room so we can tell people when
dinner is ready.

Lincoln, however, was not as amused by the literature. He just ran around. And ran around. And ran around. Emily, the great wife that she is, let Chad enjoy the museum on his own while she chased Lincoln throughout the Smurf village and around the exhibits.

Have you hugged a Smurf today?

Zalie in outer space with Tin Tin!

The museum was not enough to quench Chad's comic craze, so we also went to three book stores where he purchased a total of 13 new comic books including Lucky Luke, Asterix and Obelix, and the Smurfs. That was his reward for landing a job post-law school! Some celebrate with fancy dinners, we celebrate with comics.

After the comic love, we went to Choco-Story The Chocolate Museum. Other than the fact that it was completely crowded, it was great! I think Lincoln loved it the most out of all of us. Give that kid an unlimited supply of chocolate and you've got a happy Lincoln.

Dip your own cookie in a chocolate drizzle? Yes, please!

Chocolate dresses are both wearable and edible!
We were able to see a chocolatier make Belgian Pralines. It was really neat and convinced Emily to buy some chocolate and molds and create a chocolate shop in her kitchen. Chad wholeheartedly supports this!

Brussels is also a pretty city with lots of gorgeous architecture.

After seeing a group of Asians in front of the
Peace Palace in the Hague doing thumbs-ups,
we decided that peace signs are out. It's all
about the thumbs-up in 2015!

There are scenes throughout Brussels painted
by famous comic artists. It was cool!

Chad bought comics and Emily bought Neuhaus chocolates.
Our day started with truck waffles, so Chad found it appropriate to end with more waffles. This one was more like a typical waffle in the US, but the creme and strawberries were divine!

Belgium, we may have to come back to you and eat more waffles, buy more comics, and relish in more chocolate.
