Penny-Pinching Fun

Since Chad is in Law School and we have no real income right now, we live frugally. This means that Chad browses the free section on Craigslist often. This past Tuesday Chad found a post about a clothing store closing down and they were giving away all their stuff. Awesome!

So on Wednesday we found ourselves in downtown Durham, across the street from a ton of homeless people, waiting in a line to get into this store. The doors opened and we walked up the stairs to get some cool stuff. There were a lot of people in front of us, so the big stuff was already claimed when we got to the top of the stairs (by big stuff we mean a fridge, ottomans, mannequins, and every other available stick of furniture). Chad was holding Lincoln while we both looked around the shop to see what was left. Emily entered a room with piles of clothes.  She started to look through the piles to see if anything was her size (everything was brand new, so she was getting excited). But then a ton of people just grabbed hand fulls of clothes without looking at them, so in self-preservation she grabbed a few things before they were all gone. Crazy! She also saw a box full of brown tights. They were brand new, so she looked in the box for her size and took one package. That was all she needed. Right after Emily took the pack another person just took the whole box!

Meanwhile, Chad was looking through other rooms. While he was standing at the top of the stairs he saw a nice southern woman holding a mannequin and shouting into another room "M'am... M'am... M'am!... That stand belongs to my mannequin!" Yeah, don't mess with a southerner's mannequin.

Chad moved on and found a ton of tights with the Duke logo on them. Since Emily knew people were not taking time to look through the stuff, she advised Chad to grab a ton of them. So now we have a lot of Blue Devil tights.

Chad then noticed a stack of 3-ring binders. Law school requires a ton of reading, so he uses a lot of binders. He grabbed a lot of binders. Some were full of buttons, others were full of scrap fabric. Emily's button supply has now doubled!

Well, long story short, we made off like bandits with a cooler, fabric supplies, patches, binders, and a bunch of other free stuff that we may never actually use (anyone need an MIT mini-dress?). Just another normal day in Durham.
